The TOMCC Coventry Machines Section.

The TOMCC's Coventry Triumph's Section covers Triumph motorcycles manufactured at the Coventry city centre factories at Much Park Street and Priory Road from 1901 to November 14th, 1940 when the factory was flattened during the Coventry Blitz. The Coventry factories saw the design and construction of the first dedicated motorised bicycles (a ¾ hp Minerva engine clipped to a heavyweight cycle frame) through to what we would recognise as a motorcycle with a saddle tank, front suspension, a clutch, foot controlled gears, twist-grip throttle and drum brakes, reaching a milestone in 1938 with Edward Turner’s 500cc overhead valve engined Speed Twin that for many years defined the design of large capacity motorcycles and would later on at Meriden grow to 650 and 750 capacities.
